Dental Checkups & Cleanings for Kids

Our primary goal at each child’s dental appointment is to make them as comfortable as possible—this makes things go a lot smoother for both us and them! We’ll examine your child’s mouth, make sure their teeth and jaw are developing correctly, answer any questions you might have about their dental needs, and perform a cleaning to remove bacteria from their trouble spots. You can always give us a call if you have a concern regarding their oral health between visits—we’ll provide the personalized information you need at any time.

Dental Sealants

Many children develop cavities despite everyone’s best efforts, and they often occur in the back teeth. That’s because they are large and have deep pits/grooves that trap bacteria and food particles. Thankfully, we can cover these teeth with a thin layer of clear dental plastic, essentially shielding them. Sealants only take minutes to apply, are invisible, and can help your child avoid more costly dental work for a decade or more.

Athletic Mouthguards / Sportsguards

Whether your child is a star athlete in the making or just likes to play the occasional pick-up game with friends, they should never hit the mat, court, or field without a mouthguard. The biggest cause of broken and knocked-out teeth (by a wide margin) is sports-related accidents, particularly for children! We can provide your child with a custom-made guard that fits better and offers higher-quality defense compared to generic ones you’ll find at the store. The comfort will make sure it actually gets used, giving you one less thing to worry about from the sidelines!

Lip & Tongue-Tie Treatment

Does your child have trouble breast or bottle feeding? Do they have difficulties latching or creating a steady flow of milk or formula? These kinds of issues often stem from a lip or tongue tie, where a small band of oral tissue prevents these parts of the mouth from moving properly. Dr. Gramse can diagnose and fix both using a fast procedure that will see your child feeding immediately afterward and not experiencing the same hang-ups in the future.

Non-Nutritive Habits

It’s adorable when a baby or small child sucks their thumb, but once they reach the age of three or four when most or all of their teeth have appeared, it can become a problem. The pressure from thumb sucking can cause the teeth to come in crooked and even negatively alter the development of the jaw. Getting a child to stop can be a difficult and stressful process, but Dr. Gramse has helped countless parents navigate it. She can provide effective tips and is happy to be a sounding board when things get frustrating!
